Tuition Preschool & GSRP
Whistle Stop Learning Center offers both tuition-based preschool and participation in Michigan’s Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), giving families flexible options while maintaining a high-quality preschool experience for every child.
About GSRP and Universal Pre-K in Michigan
GSRP is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program and part of the state’s Universal Pre-K initiative. It is designed to prepare children for kindergarten by supporting early learning, social development, and school readiness through structured, play-based instruction. GSRP focuses on building strong foundations in language, early math, social-emotional skills, and confidence in a classroom setting.
At Whistle Stop, the GSRP program runs five days per week from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Children enrolled in GSRP are required to attend all five days to ensure consistency and continuity in learning. Families may also take advantage of before and after care at a discounted rate, as well as the option for year-round care, rather than only attending during the traditional school year.
Integrated Classrooms and Family Involvement
Tuition-based preschool children and GSRP children learn together in the same classroom. All students participate in the same daily routines, class parties, field trips, parent-teacher conferences, and special events. This inclusive approach builds a strong sense of community and allows families to be active partners in their child’s education.
Community connection is an important part of our preschool experience. The Betsie Valley District Library visits our classrooms twice a month to host story hour, supporting early literacy and a love of books. Throughout the year, we also invite the local community into our center—welcoming local crafters and bakers, firefighters, EMS crews, and other community partners. These visits help children learn about the people who serve our area, explore different careers, and better understand the world around them in meaningful, hands-on ways.
Tuition Preschool Options
For families who prefer a more flexible schedule, tuition-based preschool options are available for children who attend fewer than five days per week. These options provide the same high-quality learning environment while offering scheduling flexibility to meet individual family needs.
Important Information for Families
GSRP no longer has an income limit. All families are encouraged to apply if their child will be 4 years old by December 1 of the enrollment year. Applying ensures families can be considered for placement and explore all available preschool options at Whistle Stop Learning Center.
At Whistle Stop, our goal is to support every child’s growth and readiness for kindergarten while partnering closely with families every step of the way.
